Profile

Yoshinobu Iwanaga

Japanese

Graduated top of the class from the “License de Concert” at the École Normale de Musique de Paris. Awarded numerous prizes in Japan and abroad, including First Prize at the 1st Japan Guitar Competition, First Prize at the 3rd Gargnano International Guitar Competition, and Second Prize at the 20th Paris International Guitar Competition.
Later based in Belgium, performed widely across Europe and received high acclaim.

In 2000, relocated his base of activities to Japan. Since then, he has performed extensively not only throughout Japan but also internationally in Europe, North Africa, the United States, Canada, and across Asia. He has appeared at renowned venues such as Carnegie Hall in New York and Wigmore Hall in London, earning enthusiastic praise. His performances—distinguished by advanced technique, refined musical sensitivity, and a dynamic, richly expressive style that transcends the traditional boundaries of the instrument—leave a profound impression on audiences. Valuing the immediacy of live music, he does not make recordings.

In addition to his solo career, he actively collaborates with other instruments such as harpsichord, flute, voice, and others. His work as an arranger has also been highly regarded: pieces considered unplayable on the guitar are skillfully reconstructed to sound natural and idiomatic, as if originally composed for the instrument. Through activities with the Japan Asia Guitar Education Association, he has also been involved in international exchanges in cities such as Taichung, Nanjing, and Xiamen.
